Welcome Simple life seekers
The wildhearts.
the readers and the whisperers.
the folklore lovers.
the advocates for nature
and the gatherers of treasures
(isn’t that what big pockets in dresses are for?)
Dear You,
I’m Julia, maker, wanderer of Devon country lanes, mother, home-educator, quiet observer of small wonders, and someone who finds comfort in words, stitches, and the gentle rhythm of simple living.
Lanefolk began quietly for me.
It wasn’t a business plan or a grand idea. Just a tug at my sleeve during a muddy walk, a whisper that perhaps the ordinary parts of my days were worth recording.
I’ve always written things down: half-thoughts, little moments, snippets of feeling. And I’ve always stitched things slowly, mending what’s worn, repurposing the forgotten. But for a long time, both lived in scraps — notebooks, pockets, piles of fabric waiting for “one day.”
I realised I needed a home for it all.
Somewhere to gather the threads of my life and let them form something whole.
Lanefolk is that place.
Here you’ll find a mix of things: my countryside diary, the slow fashion pieces I sew from old and once-loved fabrics, the ups and downs of home education, the joys and muddles of homemaking, and the honest parts of being a 50 year old woman trying her best to live gently, creatively, and true to herself.
I’m not polished. My days aren’t perfect. I’m learning as I go – how to slow down, how to notice, how to create from the heart, how to feel less alone, and how to build something meaningful for my family and my own sense of purpose.
If you are someone who feels deeply, craves a quieter life, loves nature, and wants to create your own gentle rhythm, I think you will feel at home here.
You and I probably share a lot without ever having met.
